Which Are The Top Vineyards in Cape Town?
- Klein Constantia (https://www.kleinconstantia.com/)- In the recent Worlds Best Vineyards list Klein Constantia came out top in Cape Towns wine estates at number 44! The estate sits in Constantia on 69 hectares of land under vines and grows a variety of grape Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Riesling and a variety of reds. Klein Constantia also grows Muscat Blanc à Petit Grains which is used for their desert wine. The estate can trace it’s roots back to 1685 and is set high in the Constantiaberg mountains with stunning views of sunrise across False Bay. As with many of the Vineyards on the Constantia wine route the summer trade winds keep the grapes cool under the warm Mediterranean African sun and during the winter months the Cape of Storms provides plenty of rain to nourish the soil. Their philosophy of quality over quantity is clearly a winning formula as they find themselves on this prestigious list of wine estates.
- Groot Constantia (https://grootconstantia.co.za/)- Groot Constantia came in at number 86 – widely considered to be the oldest wine farm in South Africa dating back to 1685. It boasts 90 hectares under vines and produces an array of national and international wines with 70% red and 30% white (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Pinotage, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Semillon to name just a few). The bigger estate offers the Jonkershuis restaurant, the gift shop and the stunning 160 hectare estate.
- Steenberg Farm (https://www.steenbergfarm.com/) – The stunning Steenberg Vineyards is located just on the outskirts of the famous Constantia wine route but shares all of the same characteristics enjoying the same cool rainy winter and warm windy summers. The wine tasting here has been taken to a new level offering the Wine Tasting Bar, Tasting Lounge and Outdoor Terrace. The terrace has exquisite infinity pools and reflective water features with remarkable mountain and vineyard views. The wine range here boasts 5 MCC wines, 6 classical South African wines, a fleet range, a wines in their flagship range and one wine in their magna carta range! A little something for everyone.
